GenPics.Org
How to Add Your Links
GenPics.Org is not just a single website, but a network of
sites using the GenPics.Org format, but covering different localities.
So in order to add a link, you must go to the correct website, find your
ancestor's listing, and click on the 'Add Link' button that looks like this:
You will find these buttons ONLY on the individual listing pages.
If you find an index listing that looks like it may be your ancestor, clicking
on it takes you to the household view, which shows others in the same household --
you must select the person of interest from that group to go to his/her
individual listing page. That page will show any links already added -- check to
be sure no one has submitted your page for you! If it is not there, THEN
click on the button to submit your link.
But what if my ancestor is not listed?
To have links included in a GenPics.Org site, you must be able
to find your ancestor listed. If he or she is not there, they were probably
not in that locality at the time period covered (1880 for US, 1881 for Canada
or UK, roughly 1850s for Ireland). We will be adding more sites and covering
more localities as time goes on, watch the Home
Page until the area your ancestor's lived is added.
If you are sure your ancestor lived in the area we cover at the time
period we list, but still can not find them, the census probably is incomplete, or
they are listed under an alternate spelling or the transcription was mis-read. Keep looking
until you find them -- sorry, we can not do the searching for you.
What types of links are allowed?
The link must go directly to a web page containing a photograph,
biographical information, genealogy or historical information pertaining to
the person listed on GenPics.Org. The page can have additional information. You
do not need to 'own' the page in order to link to it, so long as it is publically
accessible on-line. That means it must appear directly when you click on the link,
without requiring any sign-up, log-in or other restrictions.
No link is added without first checking to see that it meets these
requirements. If you submit a link and it is not added within a few weeks, it was
probably rejected because it does not include the target person, the link does not
work properly, or there is some sort of access restriction such as log-in required.
